Computerized Home

Home automation, also referred to as "domotics", refers to the construction, actuation and/or application of automated systems of the home, all geared at maximizing and enhancing the comfort, security and convenience of an individual home user.

These systems touch on such areas of the home as security, multimedia, robotics, lighting, inter-communication systems, etc. The systems are basically remote controlled and self - activating, where the idea is to minimize on human control or interaction and maintenance of the ideal home environment as programmed into these systems.

ROM BEDS

Practical application of some of these home automation systems may, for example, include in such areas as automatic control of room temperature and lighting, detection of fire, water and/or gas leaks, automatic switching on and off of home entertainment systems, intruder (burglar) detection systems and robotic application systems where robots get to perform manual home tasks such as cleaning around, running petty (physical) errands around the house, etc. Not so common applications may include plant watering, pet feeding, pool heating and face recognition systems.

Home automation also has lighting control systems which allow the home owner to control not only the lighting but also lighting levels of a house. These systems, with the help of a touch panel and an inbuilt processor, allow homeowners to trigger lights or other devices like fans, usually the entire house at once. Some more advanced lighting systems are able to detect human presence in a room and change the settings to personal preferences.

Security control systems such as CCTVs and motion detectors are becoming common in many homes. These home automation systems detect very minute changes to the surroundings by use of radio or infrared technology and warn the homeowner of possible intrusions. These systems can also be set up to turn on at certain times of the day and night automatically.

A common application today is in intercom technology. A user interacts with the system via a microphone and a speaker. Some advanced systems can recognize individual voices and act accordingly, based on how they have been programmed. These systems have proven to be very secure and effective in keeping away intruders.

Home automation systems however, like any other comfort appliances or systems, may have their down or negative sides. For example, some of these technologies employed in their construction may have harmful ray emissions such as laser beams, radio waves, etc. These home comforts have also led to reduced human contact resulting in anti-social behavior.

Home automation is about comfort, convenience and security. This comfort and security comes with a heavy price to pay. Installation and maintenance of some automated systems is very expensive. These costs are invariably high and therefore out of reach to most people.

However, it is expected that as more people come to appreciate technology and its convenience in people's daily lives and as individual incomes continue to rise, home automation will be a more common feature of many homes worldwide. They not only save on time but also give people a sense of security.

Tanning Beds

In Western countries, tanning beds are used at home or in tanning salons to obtain a sunless tan. Manufacturers of tanning beds claim that these beds tan safely and do not cause skin cancer. However, medical practitioners say that tanning, whether from sunlight or artificial sources of radiation, is never safe. In fact, a tan indicates a skin problem.

beds with storage

Tanning beds are popular across the United States because they offer tans throughout the year. These beds emit a mixture of ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation to produce a bronzed look on white skin. This radiation causes premature aging and skin cancer. Therefore, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), American Medical Association (AMA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warn against using tanning beds for cosmetic purposes.

Beds

Research shows that some DNA changes occur in people frequently exposed to tanning beds' ultraviolet radiation. In addition, staffs at tanning salons often do not handle and clean tanning beds properly. Therefore, there have been incidents of UV lamps exploding in the face of the person undergoing tanning, and the occurrence of skin problems like scabies and warts. Some doctors say that UV radiation from tanning beds can be addictive for some people, making them visit tanning salons frequently. Furthermore, the concentration of radiation from a tanning bed is greater than that from the sun; therefore, the risks of premature and skin cancer are also higher. Research also indicates that young people, especially young women, frequent tanning salons, and doctors say that is the reason for increasing numbers of skin cancer patients in their twenties.

For those who are desperate for a tan, doctors recommend faking a tan by using commercially available self-tanning lotions and sprays. These products provide a temporary tan, and are generally safe for all skin types.

Small Engine Repair - You Can Do it Yourself

Small engines are used on many types of outdoor power equipment including lawnmowers, snowblowers, tillers, trimmers, chainsaws and blowers. From time to time these engines require service. When this happens, should you attempt to fix the problem yourself or should you instead take the machine to a local repair shop?

There are some good reasons to consider repairing your own small engine. Most repair shops charge a fee just to look at your machine. At fifty dollars or more per hour of labor plus the cost of parts, your bill can quickly add up. During busy seasons a repair shop may take weeks to repair your machine. Before any of that you must load the heavy equipment into your car or pay expensive pickup/delivery charges. Will they fix it right the first time?

ROM BEDS

With some basic mechanical ability and a few common tools you can often do the job yourself, saving money and time. Start by reading the machine's owner's manual. There you'll find important safety and warranty information, operating instructions and maintenance procedures. If the solution to your problem isn't found there then find the machine's make and model number. Often these numbers are stamped directly into the engine's cover, or they may be located on a sticker or tag attached to the engine. There may be separate model numbers for the engine and for the chassis or "body" of the machine.

Use your machine's make and model number to obtain the correct service manual. Many of the same service manuals that professional small engine mechanics use are readily available via the Internet and are quite inexpensive. Some online stores offer a wide selection of service manuals in a number of formats including paper, downloadable electronic PDF, VHS video and CD-ROM. These manuals are quite detailed yet are written at a fairly basic level. They contain important safety information, adjustment procedures, troubleshooting tips and specifications in addition to step-by-step repair instructions. The service manual will easily pay for itself on the first job.

After using the service manual to diagnose your machine's problem, decide if it is something that you can repair yourself. Some problems require specials tools or are covered under the machine's warranty and these repairs are best left to a professional. Many common problems however are easy to fix yourself. Replacing a clogged air filter for example is quite simple and takes just minutes. Replacement parts are available online and at local dealers that support your brand of equipment.

So the next time your lawnmower won't start, don't run to the local repair shop. If you're the least bit handy, consider trying to fix it yourself. Not only can you save money and time, but you'll also get the satisfaction that comes from repairing your own power equipment.

Napoleon Hill Made a Mistake

Napoleon Hill was so right about so many things for the achievement of abundance and prosperity, but his process is a little off. If you are a Napoleon Hill fan, read on because his work only needs a little fine tuning.

hillsdale furniture

First, What Did Napoleon Hill Say?

HILL

Napoleon Hill is often read and quoted by those interested in the Law of Attraction, and most of his ideas are exactly in sync with this principle.

"become magnetized with the dominating thoughts we hold in our minds.... These magnets attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts."

This is the first principle described by Napoleon Hill.

And, all his principles are exactly in accord with the other great teachers of the Law of Attraction and my own experience. He is more famous for this quotation:

"Whatever

the Mind of Man

Can CONCEIVE

and BELIEVE

it can ACHIEVE!"

I absolutely agree with Hill on these points. It is in his execution, or steps that I find disagreement.

What are Napoleon Hill's Recommended Steps?

Fix in your mind the exact amount of money desired. Be definite. We are reminded that open mindedness is key and belief is necessary. Hope will not produce results. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for that money. (There is no such thing in reality as "something for nothing.") This gift might be time or work, but we cannot just sit home on the couch in exchange for the money. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money desired. Create a plan and begin at once. Action is called for! Write out your plan. A clear concise statement of the amount of dollars, the time frame for the acquisition, and state that which you will give in return. Describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it. Read your written statement twice daily. As you read, see, feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.

Do you see the problem? It's that the subconscious sends a message to the higher mind to work in partnership with Source/Creator/Divinity and there is no time outside of space/time. Our subconscious reads "future" as, "not now" and that will never change.

To manifest wealth or abundance in any area, you have to do it NOW!. Your higher mind does not have any limitations as to time. It can work opportunities and circumstances into your past just as easily as you can work right now.

This is something that Mike Dooley tries to explain but it is very difficult for us to take in. -- How can the past be changed from what it was?

All is possible if you have faith. In Ho'oponopono, or Charles Haanel and Dr. Amidi, we hear about the translation of conscious desire due to emotional impetus. This translation is done by the unconscious, and subsequently transmitted as a wish or prayer to the Creative Source, or Infinite Intelligence, or God the Father. Napoleon Hill does not say anything about creativity moving directly from the consciousness. All writers who deal in specifics explain the process as moving from conscious desire to the unconscious and only then to the Creative Source, or Infinite Intelligence.

But as with all who work from inspiration, sometimes our egoic minds get in the way.

Problems with the Ego

The Ego lives in time, and the Ego lives more in the past and the future than in the present. The Ego loves strategy which is not be the primary mode for acquisition in the 4th Dimension. Why? Because there is no future; there is only the NOW.

Whatever you love to do, do it NOW. Do it not because it will make you rich in the future, but do it because you love doing it and this will put you in the vibration of wealth. Doing what you love gets you out of the Ego into your higher mind. Do it fearlessly!

How do we correct the process above? Do 1, 2 and 6. Skip the rest unless you do them for the fun of it. But, leave the "how" to the Universe.

Foam Camping Beds

Beds

For years backpackers have used rolled foam camping beds. These beds are durable enough to be used for cooking in camp. They double for a table when needed to keep cookware free from dirt and sand. These reasonably beds are light and warm, a gentle comfort for backpackers.

Self-Inflating Camping Beds

Thermarest, a line of self-inflating camping beds, provides more warmth than foam mats, and they are of comparable weight. A layer of air, held between two layers of insulation, keeps a camper warm. Self-inflating beds give extra cushion, sorely needed when rocks and sticks lie beneath the tent.

Full Inflating Beds

Full inflating beds offer even more warmth and protection, but their weight and bulk restricts usage to groups who are car camping. These inflatable beds are a luxury for campers, who bear the burden to transport them to their campsite. Nevertheless, sleeping in these beds out under the stars is as comfortable as any bed in your home. When inflated, these beds occupy as much space as a standard mattress. It takes a lot of air to fill them and they are susceptible to punctures. A night on the cold, hard ground could be a possibility.

The Classic Cot

Another alternative to the inflatable camping bed is the classic cot. It is appreciated by car campers and base camps, as well, for it is comfortable, sets up quickly, and maintains the camper at a high level, well above the cold. These cots are much too heavy for backpackers. They are perfect for family-sized or wall tents. They take up too much space for smaller tents.

Hammocks

Hammocks are light and make a small bundle. With the right rain fly, a good hammock might even replace a tent. A hammock is great for a backpacker, who can easily assemble a rain fly using a tarp and a few pieces of rope. It is not wise to use a hammock during cold weather, as hammocks do not store heat. Heat escapes from hammocks and is absorbed by the surrounding air. Summer is the time for using hammocks.

Strolling the Streets of Chapel Hill, North Carolina

As part of the important Triangle Region of North Carolina, Chapel Hill's history predates most of American history. Indeed, the nation's first public university - The University of North Carolina - is situated in the town and shapes much of the town's culture, liberal mannerisms, and populace. A trip to Chapel Hill is a must for those who visit the Raleigh-Durham area and a little walking tour can reveal much about Chapel Hill's flavor.

hillbilly golf

Like so many college towns, Chapel Hill is the University of North Carolina. As the town's largest employer, UNC's influence permeates the town. Indeed without UNC, Chapel Hill would probably not exist. Still, nearly 50,000 residents call Chapel Hill home and it, along with the neighboring town of Carrboro, offer much to visitors.

HILL

College basketball fans know UNC because of its men's basketball team which recently won the college national basketball championship. With a very good women's team on hand as well, UNC's basketball programs are considered to be among the top programs in the nation. Still, interest in sports isn't for everyone and Chapel Hill goes well beyond the sports amenities extolled by the university.

Strolling down the streets of UNC reveals all that the town has to offer: a haven for artists, a home for improvisational comedians, the requisite coffee bars, health food stores, eateries, live music performances, colorful murals, and more. Festivals in the spring and fall bring in tens of thousands of people to the downtown area, but on campus activities easily dwarf what regularly goes on in the business district.

Founded in 1792, UNC has an onsite planetarium that was built in the late 1940s. It has been used by some NASA astronauts as part of their training for various missions. The planetarium is open to the public and it, along with the universities 16 libraries, is a popular place to visit. Beyond that, there are enough student run shows and events to keep the Chapel Hill visitor busy even outside of basketball season.

The best times of the year to walk the streets of Chapel Hill are in the Spring and in the Fall. Summer heat and winter cold tend to limit the outdoor activities, but the town thrives year round nevertheless. Yes, the requisite color in town is "Carolina Blue" so get used to the Tarheel way of life when visiting historic Chapel Hill, the home of the prestigious University of North Carolina.
